Ooooooold drawings of mine
I just found this disc of pictures I burned a really long time ago and on it were some XF drawings I did when I was 11, so I thought I would share :) I think that big black thing is supposed to be from Independence Day, though I'm not sure why the moon is in front of it... I guess the giant pterodactyl on top of a volcano got cut off in the scan... And Scully!

Wow, Rat, even as a kid- how old are you now?- you were very talented and imaginative. Keep nurturing that talent! Kudos! Bravo! And we can always teach classes in the art of obscene doll/action figure poses, too! ;)

Thanks Bug! I just turned 23 a few days ago. Of course, we'll teach at CalArts and it will be a requirement for a sculpting degree. I find it endlessly amusing that I drew aliens raiding a beer truck when I was 11.

Love the TMNTs :D Well...that was back when the frog campaign was at it's peak, and there ain't no one that can tell me those commercials were designed to entertain kids  I was in middle school/HS at the time, and people were referencing it all the time. This makes me wanna get my alien doodles up...and the one with the SNL with DD doodles. Very nice Rat!!

ratgirl84- 12-07-2007

Yeah, I think I was most proud of how I drew them at the time. True, true, theres even a frog on the side of the truck, der! Crack em out and get em up here!! If I can figure out this scanner, I have some new XF sketchies too, some in pencil, some in ink (I like to do alot of stuff without erasing since it helps me get better at likenesses). I know I at least did Scully on the phone in bed in WotC... I forget what else.

kamisch42- 12-07-2007

I'm horrible at ink drawings, so I always have my pencil handy so I can sketch the likeness, and go back over it with ink later to define it. But then again...you draw people a lot better than I do, so maybe there's a trick to that inking ;) I stick to my beasties :D

ratgirl84- 12-07-2007

Well, when you only have one shot to get it right, you really concentrate on getting it, and after a while it just comes naturally. I used to fill sketchbooks with nothing but quickie ink portraits. Plus, they help me get over this weird drawing (failure) anxiety i've always had. When I have to do something thats going to be super detailed, sometimes i'll stare at a blank page for hours (days sometimes) before I can even make a mark, and if I screw it up, I can't finish. Its pretty sick really, but I guess all artists are a little crazy. Anyway I hadn't done any of those in a while because i've been in sort of an art slump for almost the past 2 years (I went an entire year without drawing a single thing because I let my anxiety get me, and I still haven't been able to get my production level up to what it used to be). I used to have this head and hands drawing class where we had to turn in a sketchbook with at least 100 drawings in it every few weeks. I think thats my new goal. A sketchbook with at least 100 XF drawings by... the end of January (gotta be realistic).

kamisch42- 12-07-2007

Heh...come on now, you can get more than 100 in by January ;)

ratgirl84- 12-07-2007

We'll see, its just a goal for now, I may have more than that in the end.

kamisch42- 12-07-2007

I was trying to see if I still had that picture of those doodles I told you about sved on this computer...but it doesn't look like it :( They're not scanned anyway, I don't have a scanner anymore. That might be why I didn't bother to save them. I did find these though (no XF in them, but my little UFOs popped up, and my cartoon aliens I loved to draw all the way through into HS too) :D (no, just...don't ask...I don't know what I was smoking for this one  ) *** ...and since you mentioned hands...I went all "Da Vinci studies" in 8th grade. But I could never do any of that straight away in ink...I'm an eraser.

ratgirl84- 12-07-2007

Woah!! I love the top one, total acid trip! Haha, I know what you mean, thats how I feel about poetry i've written. My Dad is a poet, and I grew up around all my parents' weird poet friends, and we constantly went to all sorts of poetry readings, but i'll be damned if that gene didn't skip me. Thats a pretty good hand for an 8th grader! Eh, I erase too much if I have that freedom, then nothing gets done. Its maddening. But I just scanned that Scully sketch (which is in pencil after I just gave ink all that praise... but as I said, I haven't done it in a while), but I decided I didn't like the other ones. You think I should make a new thread for the new sketches, or should I add em onto the old thread?

kamisch42- 12-07-2007

I forget...was the sketch one of your old ones or a new one? If it's old, might as well put it here...if you just did it, might as well post it in your thread with all your other stuff. Hurry up and get it on here though, one way or the other!! Yeah...the top one was fun :weird: It has the names of my pets hidden in their frames, but it's hard to see from the scan (since that one actually was scanned). It was done in '96 too (great year for us doodlers I guess  ). Well, I write a lot of poems, or songs usually actually, but I just don't get that one there. It's from maybe '98 or so...and I was already writing for our lit mag by that point...it was just...something fun. I have a lot of "framed" poems like that though. Often it started with a friend picking things to be in the frame...then I had to try and write a poem about what was there. This is the only one I have from that era. Wish I had the rest, but the finished product always went to the friend, and I didn't have a scanner at the time...nor a copier I guess. I think this is onoe where I chose the frame myself, and went from there. That's how I spent my Algebra II class :giggle: Sketching my own hand laying on the desk. I miss that flannel...

ratgirl84- 12-07-2007

Nah, just did it a few days ago... Monday morning I think, cuz I did a tattoo outline for a friend right after (Insane Clown Posse. And not even his first ICP tattoo. Its a freaking cult). Yeah, I used to do alot of these quickie comic things back in the day, but I gave all of them away to people. This is the only one I still have (I think George was supposed to take it, but didn't because he was still upset about the soda): http://www.geocities.com/shirleyvixen_2000/GeorgeSucks_comic.JPG The guy with the weird hair is the one I did the tat on btw. And Celina was there while I was setting up. Its weird how things change, but they never really change, ya know? Ok, I gonna stick it in the other thread for now, but I might end up making another one later if I really get going on the 100 sketches. Its nothing fantatic though, I warn ya, just a quickie sketch.

kamisch42- 12-07-2007

Oh that's true...if you end up doing the whole project of sketches...maybe you should give them their own thread after all..."100 Days of XF Sketches in Less Than a Month!" (or something better than that :giggle: ). I did little comics with my friends, but...they were stick figures  Stick figures are fun.

Hmmm... gonna have to think of a clever title...
