Gillian Anderson Exposes Armani in Shocking New VideoThis wasn't posted here so I thought I would link it...
http://blog.peta.org/archives/2008/10/gillian_anderso.php
(This video is VERY disturbing...just to warn you. I'm generally okay with graphic things but I watched this entire video and was bothered by it.)
So as you know, Giorgio Armani has been on PETA's bad list lately. Promising to go fur-free and then reneging on the idea altogether in order to make rabbit-fur outfits for babies really just isn't something we appreciate (I think the animals would agree …).
Hearing this loud and clear, A-list actress and compassionate PETA friend Gillian Anderson really came through to lend her support to this issue. Her voice can now be heard narrating a shocking, moving investigation video that takes you into the depths of rabbit fur farming.
The video was unveiled earlier today at a news conference outside Armani's Michigan Avenue store in Chicago. I strongly encourage you to watch this video and pledge to be fur-free. Gillian, PETA, and all the rabbits of the world will thank you for it.

It gets so much worse than that...
*shudders*

Yeah... I couldn't continue to listen to it. I don't wear real fur and I never would. The fake stuff is just fine with me IF I am even inclined to that. I can go without watching this.

Fur use in fashion =
I realize that while doing the narration GA was keeping her voice modulated for effect, but given the subject matter, I'm thinking a few well placed WTF's would have been acceptable...and without any loss of class or style points.

I agree and she is fully capable of it!
DenyEverything- 10-15-2008
yeah fur farming is pretty gruesome.
peeptoad- 10-16-2008
Fur farming is a terrible practice and completely unnecessary. There is absolutely no reason why human beings need to wear fur in this day and age.
I am not a supporter of PETA by any stretch of the imagination, but fur farming is pretty atrocious.

The same goes for me
Fur for fashion is so odd to me. It used to be needed for warmth but we have synthetic stuff for all of those purposes now. We even have synthetic goose down that is warmer then the original.
That said... I still eat meat and I think a lot of Peta's practices waste time and money.

Ditto Peep & Rain. They're another one of those rather extremist groups that I just can't jive with. And I'm not interested in seeing any more of their videos...not after "Meet Your Meat" It wasn't enough to make me go vegg, but it was enough to make me want less meat, and to know where it came from. I can only imagine how gross the fur video is. Actually...scratch that, I don't want to even imagine it. I already know fur's a bad industry.
But I still eat meat, and I'm not afraid of leather.

The reason I can't get behind PETA (well one of the reasons) is because they are hypocrits! They stand for animal rights, but they've actually caused more human and animals suffering than many of the groups they lobby against. I mean, that's fine, you are entitiled to your opinion on factory farms, medical research, horse rcaing, or whatever, but when you go around making death threats, injuring people with car bombs, and setting fire to institutes where (Hello!?) animals are housed, then.... gimme a break.
I'm not a vegetarian, although I do not eat anything other than fish or chicken, and I'm against fur farming and cosmetic research (and the like), but I support medical research whole-heartedly. Without research animals we would not have vaccines, insulin for diabetes tx, and about a billion other treatments and medications. And guess what?... animals benefit from medical research just as much as people do. I know cats that have had kidney transplants, and horses that have benefited from stem cell therapy, and artificial joints.
The people at PETA need to educate themselves more than anything...
kamisch42- 10-17-2008
Yeah, most extremists end up being hypocrits to some degree.
The first thing I ever knew about them was that they'd throw red paint on fur coats. Now, I'm not a fan of fur coats myself, and I don't think they look nice, but they are rather expensive, and most people buy them as a status symbol. Not everyone that buys them actually does have a lot of money though. Some might've had a coat handed down to them, others might've saved up a long time for them. And then all their money gets wated, just like that. Now...to me, just buying a fur coat is kind of a waste anyway, but still...to those that think it's totally awesome, they can't even sell it back for a refund or anything. Educate them on why having the fur's wrong though, and they can see the light, return the coat, get their money back, and spend it on something more worthwhile.
...plus all those things you mentioned Peep. Although I'm iffy with animal research. If it's for an actual life-saving medical purpose, then I can handle it. I just don't like it when it's claimed as medical, but it's unecessary medical. Like...if the makers of Viagra had any animal -*test*-('")ing, I just don't feel that'd be right. I don't think it's a necessity. And I'm absolutely against for cosmetics research, but that's not considered medical so...yeah. I do think there should be more voluntary human -*test*-('")ing :D There's some, I know, and I see the commercials asking for volunteers, but t hose are mostly more...study groupish. I tink we need more people willing to be actal guinea pigs ;) Afterall, it's for the benefit of the whole.

Holy... F*cking... Sh*t.
I'm not the biggest fan of PETA, but that's just messed up.
Nevertheless I've never worn fur, and I don't intend to wear real fur. For obvious reasons, of course.
